H.H.M.I Workshop: Ecology of Inland Fishes of Puerto Rico (June, 2017):
In collaboration with the Wayne State University, the workshop was quite successful for people who join to expand their knowledge about fishes in Puerto Rico. The workshop was conducted at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez under de supervision of my PI, Dr. Carlos Santos, Corey and Trevor Krabbenhoft. Only in Puerto Rico we have 7 freshwater native species, the rest are exotic species. We have an excursion to Quebrada de Oro, at the main campus, and Maricao State Forest to learn about different methods of collecting fishes and taxa identification. Although my research interest is about freshwater macro-invertebrates, it was a great experience to share with Corey and Trevor our experience as students and researchers, as well as our culture (especially our culinary culture... mmmmmmm).
IX Caribbean Biodiversity Congress at Santo Domingo, D.R (February, 2017):
During January 31 to February 3, 2017 the IX Caribbean Biodiversity Congress was held at Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel, that was full of knowledge about biodiversity of flora and fauna, as well as diverse activities of confraternization between participants of other countries, including Puerto Rico, of course. At this congress I presented a little part of my thesis project and show the impact that invasive species will cause at high scale, especially freshwater snails which I am working on. Also, my undergraduate students, Juleyska Vázquez and Bredwin Padilla presented their respective research projects, definitely I am proud of them! Thanks to Dr. David Hernández-Martich for the opprtunity and I hope to visit again Santo Domingo!
ESA-SEEDS National Fieldtrip at Mark Twain National Forest (May, 2016):
This is one of the best experience that I had in my entire life as a scientist. This fieldtrip consisted of different talks, workshops and excursions through different part of the forest, but it was mainly focused on Herpetology and Plant Ecology. The interesting part of this fieldtrip is that most of undergraduate students and even graduate students were Hispanic. It was funny to talk about some words that in other countries of Central or South America are considered "bad words" or in Puerto Rico is considered as "bad words", but in the rest of Latin America is normal (Example: "Bicho", that means "mosquito" in many parts of Latin America, but means "dick" in PR). The other interesting issue is that we made a family in only 3 days, sharing knowledge of culture and enjoying together our most important passion: Doing science and our love for ecology.
H.H.M.I Workshop: Effects of invasive species on stream dynamics and diversity (June 2015):
I share this coverage, thanks Darrin and Anna for a wonderful knowledge sharing and cross cultural exchange with us. I enjoyed these two days a lot. Link:

West Side Story: Jets vs. Sharks (April, 2015)
I returned again to theather performance in West Side Story, in the character of Diesel (Ice), which was a great opportunity to do what I love, a part of science. Without any time to rest and take off my responsibilities (literally: Master studies, teaching assistant...), two and half months took the preparation of this play that was a great event the last week of april, 2015 in San Germán and the west coast of P.R. Fine arts, for me, is a great movement that shows these unique aspect of character evaluation and how will help you in real life... and yes, I said REAL LIFE! Life is another theather, without scripts.
Dance like no one is watching! (March, 2015)
Two years and half since I became a part of this great family; great component to release stress by doing what I like. During the first weekend of March 2015, I was part of the cast of "La Máquina del tiempo" (Time machine), from 3 Generaciones Workshop, which consisted in dances from different eras. It was a great adventure that transport and show the different ways about what is dancing and how people from previous generations made the performance of different types of dance.
2014 UPRM Graduation Ceremony (100th):
On Friday, the 13th was the 100th UPRM Graduation Ceremony. Although the show was a mix of emotions, this marks the beginning of a new season in my life. However, I expect a full step challenges. I am ready!
Hiking Tour at El Cañón San Cristobal in Barranquitas (May, 2014):
To begin, officially, our summer vacations, it cames with good chances in terms of internal tourism around the island. However, El Cañón San Cristobal is a wonderful place to visit, doing hiking and relax; believe it or not, 40 years ago it was used as a dump and currently is protected by the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico. It was a great adventure for me, especially to face my fear of heights, starting with cross the zipline between one side of the river to another and walk down steep trails (Or sit and crawl like a slide). The experience was awesome and I hope to visit it again in a future.
Science & Technology, Innovation Through Research (April, 2014):
The CoHemis-UPRM SACNAS Chapter celebrated their 2nd Annual Symposium in Luis de Celis building at UPRM Campus. As a chapter president, I was part of the organizing committee.
CoHemispherical (Vol. 6 | No.1) says:
"The SACNAS-UPRM chapter held for second consecutive year its Symposium on Science and technology. This student group linked to CoHemis, and which have won multiple national awards for their great work, called on college students from all over Puerto Rico to present their work orally or in poster. The activity was held on 24 and 25 of April, 2014 in the Celis Building of our campus and was open to all areas of engineering and natural sciences. The quantity and quality of the submitted work was outstanding and it was shown the need to expand the time and space of future symposia. In addition, the lectures by faculty members helped to motivate students to follow the path of research. In CoHemis we are very proud of this SACNAS chapter and we will continue to support their work."

CoHemis-UPRM SACNAS Chapter won the 2013 SACNAS Chapter Outstanding Community Service Role Model Award
During the Chapter Recognition Ceremony at SACNAS National Conference helded in San Antonio I received the chapter role model award and I gave a short speech to the audience and the magic words that I screamed: ANTES, AHORA Y SIEMPRE, COLEGIO! This was the six consecutive role model that the UPRM chapter received. For more information:
2013 ASLO: Aquatic Science Meeting at N.O.L.A (February-March, 2013)
Nine days of great experiences shows the unique aspect of this international recognized conference. I presented in poster my research titled: " Net-phytoplankton Survey in Guajataca Reservoir, a Mesotrophic Lake in Puerto Rico." However, few students (Including me) and professors from UPRM participated in diverse seminars, symposiums, poster and plenery sessions focused on limnology and oceanography, but from the point of view from different areas in STEM; as well as understand the effect of the impact that Hurricane Katrina that caused in this area. The Multicultural Program complements the objective of the conference with a previous excursion to different places in New Orleans.
